Quick and Easy Modifications to Microsoft CRM

Do you need to add a field to a screen in Microsoft CRM? Maybe you need to change, add or delete picklist values, rearrange the fields on a screen or add a new tab. Basic modifications to Microsoft CRM like these are simple and you definitely DON'T need a programmer, you don't even need to know a programmer!

Use these guidelines to help you through simple modifications of Microsoft CRM. For example, add a field that contains free-form text in five quick steps:

  • ALWAYS backup your current screen sets and database design using Deployment Manager
  • Then, add the field using Deployment Manager
  • Use System Customization in Microsoft CRM to add and format the field on the desired screen
  • Publish the Customization using Deployment Manager
  • Restart IIS

Note that Deployment Manager and Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager are accessed directly at your CRM server.

Remember that testing is always part of the process as well, so you may want to consider publishing and testing changes during off hours. Be sure to reference other articles describing details to complete each of these steps.
